YouTube Is Cracking Down On Profanity

Recently, YouTube has updated its advertiser-friendly content guidelines, and honestly, I find it more comedic than serious.

With these “new” guidelines, YouTube is no longer allowing profanity in the first 8 to 15 seconds of a video. They also will be demonetizing videos that use profanity for the “majority” of the video. So basically you aren’t allowed to use profanity at all unless you’re willing to take the risk of being demonetized.

The thing with YouTubes guidelines is that they have always been somewhat contradicting.

“Yes, you can use profanity in your video, but don’t use it for the first 15 seconds or the majority of it.”

You’ll always be on thin ice if you try to abide by these new rules, so I honestly suggest not using profanity at all. But ultimately, it's up to creators to decide on this and a lot are unhappy about it. So unhappy that they are using profanity in the first 15 seconds of their video.

But why the new changes?

Youtube is on the rise to becoming completely family-friendly. Or that is how it looks to me. Having a family-friendly platform is more appealing to brands. And the more brands that place ads on Youtube, the more money they get.
